Spark Access loans are issued by Spring Financial Inc. To access a Spark loan, a one-time guaranteed loan access fee of $1 is required (Spark Access). Loan eligibility for higher tiers is based on your on-time loan repayment history and is not determined by your credit score. Loan amounts range from $100 to $2,500 with a 12-month term. The annual interest rate on a $100 Spark Access loan is 28.9%. The Annual Percentage Rate (APR), which includes the $1 guaranteed loan access fee as a non-interest finance charge, is approximately 29.9%. Interest rates may decrease as you unlock higher loan tiers through on-time loan repayment.
To illustrate, if you were to receive a Spark Access loan of $100 at an annual interest rate of 28.9%, with bi-weekly payments of approximately $4.43 over a 12-month term (26 payments), the total interest cost would be approximately $15.18 and the guaranteed loan access fee would be $1.00, for a total cost of borrowing of approximately $16.18. The total amount repayable would be approximately $116.18. If you prepay your loan in full, the unearned portion of the guaranteed loan access fee will be refunded on a pro-rata basis.
Spring Financial also offers Spark Plus, an optional bi-weekly subscription for CA$9.99 that provides access to the Bloom financial planning app with AI-powered insights, a monthly Equifax or Transunion credit score, and your Spring Score. The Spark Plus subscription is optional, is not required to access a Spark Access loan, and may be cancelled at any time. The subscription fee is not included in the APR of any Spark Access loan. Only on-time loan payments count toward loan tier upgrades and your Spring Score; subscription payments do not.
You must verify your identity and link a Canadian bank account to use Spark. Spark is not available in Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, or New Brunswick.
